web-based application that prompts lung cancer patients to complete a symptom chart weekly on a smartphone, tablet, or computer improved overall survival

Medscape (6/9, Mulcahy, 302K) reports that research indicated “a web-based application that prompts lung cancer patients to complete a symptom chart weekly on a smartphone, tablet, or computer improved overall survival by 7 months, compared with standard follow-up care.”

HealthDay (6/9, Thompson, 15K) reports, “The MoovCare smartphone and web application proved so effective that researchers ended the clinical trial early, said study author Dr. Fabrice Denis.” The findings were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting.

Forbes (6/9, 9.03M) contributor Elaine Schattner, who attended the ASCO conference, wrote that the “benefits of MoovCare included fewer deaths, less use of routine imaging tests and prompter access to treatment when symptoms occurred.”
