Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio Prognostic in Melanoma

Think of neutrophils as Marines . They gear the call first , they rush to the enemy and try to kill it. Pus is mostly neutrophils. But the big boys, the thinkers, the intelligence network deluxe is the lymphocytes of which there are T and B  and boy are they smart. It is no surprise that  a ratio heavy in neutrophils did worse as lymphocytes, especially in melanoma are very involved, And it is no surprise the opposite is true. Wish I knew this 30 years ago when I diagnosed my own melanoma Stage 2- but we were babes in the woods then NLR before initiating ipilimumab is independent prognostic indicator of poor survival.

For patients with metastatic melanoma, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio before initiating ipilimumab treatment is an independent prognostic indicator of poor survival, according to a study published online Sept. 6 in the British Journal of Dermatology.
